Had an excellent 9hrs sleep. YES.
Dog Walk
Woke up and promptly took Fred out for an hour.
Some people may question whether I can log this as exercise, but if in doubt, come for a walk with us some time. Its a good brisk pace, no stopping except for some vigorous play tug (oh and the odd poop a scoop!), up and down hills and through the woods. I get hot and sweaty. Fred get tired and pant-y (!). I think this counts. At least, when I've been told I can't do heavy exercise for a while!
Knew I'd be facing challenges today re food, so grabbed a banana as soon as we got in from the walk... and off we went to face the challenge that is:
Sunday lunch @ The Adelphi
Of course I knew this was coming. It had been planned for at least 2 weeks, as it was basically a meet up with 2 old school friends and their respective other halves, all of whom I don't normally see (living all over the place). So I was kind of prepared (mainly not to eat much/anything).
But I also knew that The Adelphi does well good food.. in particular the Sunday roasts (nut roast for me!). They also always have complimentary Bloody Mary shots on the bar on Sundays...
First problem: drinks. Obviously, no alcohol. But kind of in a rush (as the server was at our table), I ordered a Fentiman's Cherrytree Cola. Delicious, and botanically brewed. But ummmmm also containing SUGAR. For some reason, I didn't even think of this, and expected it to come with the bottle so I could check ingredients anyway. It didn't. I didn't try it. As soon as it came I realised I probably couldn't have it. So I went to the bar, checked (how annoying a customer am I? - it gets worse later!), and of course then forwarded said cola to James, who kindly disposed of it on my behalf (in his mouth).
At the bar, I looked in vain for something I could actually drink. If anyone has any tips on this, I would be grateful. Because I literally couldn't see/think of anything that I was allowed - ie no sugar, no alcohol, no fruit juice [no fun!?].
So I ordered soda water with lime. And the first time, forgot to say just fresh lime, so wasted that small dash of luminous green cordial that the poor bartender included in the first one. OOPS.
- Side note: I'm sure Whole Earth drinks (as per my childhood) used to be sweetened only by apple juice... (not strictly allowed on this challenge, but for the future)... But they now contain agave syrup.. Hmm not sure why they've done that??
Food. Yes. This created an unsurprising challenge.
The veggie options were:
- nut roast (made with cheddar), served with Yorkshire pudding, red wine gravy, buttered veg, roasties [drool..]
- Lentil, roasted pepper, mushroom & halloumi salad [I adooore halloumi..]
- Stuffed beef tomato with quinoa, beetroot & horseradish, warm hazelnut and potato salad..
HMPH. After several questions to the long-suffering barmaid (is this premixed? is this prestuffed? could this come on the side? what is the dressing?), I ordered, and eventually ate:
Tea
Having spent the day/afternoon out and about (the remastered version of Jaws was excellent - brilliant film, still stands the test of time, and what an epic score!), I didn't feel like spending ages in the kitchen (esp with series 2 of Homeland looming at 9pm, Channel 4!!), so we had:
Having said I didn't want to be chained to the stove, I did however make another batch of customised paleo muffins (his n hers!), to see me through the next few mornings :)
A good end to a somewhat challenging week (though not really in terms of food/nutrition..)

- Stuffed beef tomato with beetroot & horseradish, warm hazelnut and potato salad, with mixed leaves and olive oil dressing
- Sweet potato humous with carrot sticks
- Edamame with sea salt
This meant, unstuffing the tomato, leaving most of the potatoes, and ordering the two sides from the bar snacks menu. But it was all pretty tasty. And I was pretty pleased with myself!
Got back home in time to make up a large handful's worth of items for snacking at the cinema (unavoidably passing through the foyer at the Hyde Park Picture House, mid afternoon on a Sunday, I knew there was a high likelihood James would purchase some very illegal treats.... And he did.) I took:
- Mixed nuts, flaked almonds, dried coconut pieces, a few raisins and prunes.

- Leftover paleo quiche (from yesterday) - I never make small amounts of food, and this usually pays off in convenience!
- Cabbage, asparagus, carrots
- 1 apple
Having said I didn't want to be chained to the stove, I did however make another batch of customised paleo muffins (his n hers!), to see me through the next few mornings :)
