Day 2: Massive set backs.

I knew today was potentially going to bring a big set back to my challenge.  Nothing to do with nutrition.

I'll go through it chronologically.

Had the day off (see below) = decent amount of sleep, for once.

Breakfast

  • 2 cups water;
  • 1 small black cafetiere coffee (half a mug);
  • 1 muffin (Challenge-compliant - see previous post!)

HOSPITAL APPT

[Unpleasant but required] Surgical procedure, which I could not reschedule.

* My Doctor has advised that
  • I cannot do "heavy exercise" for 2 weeks
  • I cannot swim for 4 weeks.
GUTTED.

I swim at lunch times at work, as its convenient, and had hoped to step it up for the Challenge, combined with more CrossFit.  My exercise options now look severely restricted.

I asked what "heavy exercise" means, and he said def no running, perhaps some weights will be ok, in a few days.

Don't get me wrong - of course my recovery is hugely important.  I'm just frustrated, mainly at the timing of things.

-----------------------------------------------------------

And after initially feeling ok.. I then felt really weird/bad, I think mainly due to the adrenaline used with the anaesthetic.  Bleugh.  And then felt quite a bit of pain.

I spent the rest of the day on the sofa, with my favourite cuddle-provider (soz James!) - see below.

Lunch
Around 3 o clock I decided I should eat something:
  • half bowl left over curry
  • peas and sweetcorn
  • nectarine

Dog Walk

By 5pm Freddie needed to go out, and I was feeling a little better, and wanted some fresh air/to move my body.  So off I went to for a romantic stroll with this handsome chap:

[Earlier on when we were convalescing.  Freddie was happy to join in.]

Took him out for ~45mins.  This was a really good idea.

Came back feeling better, and energised.   :)

Tea

James fancied spag bol, and here beguneth my Paelo-conversion challenge (it actually wasn't hard)!

I made my
  • standard bolognese sauce (jam packed with veggies - even ones James doesn't normally like - HA!), omitting only the dash of red wine.
I did James some mince, standard.  And some normal spaghetti.

And me:
  • courgette "spag" (peeled slivers, since I have yet to purchase a julienne peeler - a project for Saturday I think!)
  • a 3 organic egg mushroom omelette.
SUCCESS (all round!).

I also thought mine looked rather pretty on the plate..
Unfortunately, as it tasted so good (oh modesty!), I forgot to take a picture.  But imagine a plated collage of:

Finished with water, apple, supplements.

Ended the day feeling pretty good.
---------------------------------------------------------------

NB Why did I write all that stuff above about hospital etc?

Well because whilst I don't want to make excuses, I want to explain why, going forward, I won't be doing as much exercise as this Challenge encourages, and I personally wanted to do.

Preet from CrossFit Leeds (who is also doing the challenge) rightly illustrated on her Food Log that not going to CrossFit or some other organised activity doesn't mean you have to be immobile.  I 100% agree. Thanks Preet!

Although I can't do "heavy exercise" -

* I'm going to try to do some exercises at home - particularly focussing on mobility and strength. OOOF

AND

* I'm still going to get down to the box - starting at the end of the week - to at least do any weights/mobility/strength work I can.

I'll keep checking the blog for whats coming up, but I want to get down anyway and just see what I can do.
