Day 10: Routine makes things easy

Routine also means there's not much to report!

Breakfast
  • Black filter coffee
  • 1 Challenge-compliant muffin

"The usual"

Lunch
  • Salad: shredded beetrood, mixed leaves (lettuce, spinach, chard), with 'Omega seed mix' sprinkle (pumpkin, sunflower, sesame, linseed, golden linseed), lemon juice, seasoning
  • handful raw almonds
  • 1 carrot

Had the too-often issue of not enough time at lunch = grab n scoff (no time for eggs!).  I am all too aware of this and know I need to make the time to ensure decent protein intake..

CrossFit
Worked on gymnastics skills, focussing on headstands (working up to this in my case!)..  I am still at wall climb stage, but scaled this up to 10 x one hand lifts (alternate sides), working up to almost full wall climb angle... happy with that!  I just need to get over the psychological barrier re kicking up to an actual handstand, and have a go at that..

Partner WOD - with Emma
Alternating rounds AMRAP 15mins
5 Deadlifts - done at 45kg
10 Box jumps - done at 20" (Rx)
15 Unbroken Wall B
all - done at 10/5kg

Wasn't sure about the weight for the deadlift (with the sort of open ended number of rounds in a partner AMRAP), 45kg was a decent weight for me - may try a little more next time (it def wasn't the deadlifts that did me in in this WOD!)...

Legs like jelly after the box jumps/wall ball combo. Nice one! (but didn't break any rounds of wall ball - just got sloooooower)

Tea

Post-workout = sweet potato! Again! (gotta take the opportunity when its there!)

  • 3 egg omelette with mushrooms (post-workout!), courgette, black garlic and basil
  • Sweet potato with coconut oil, a little coconut cream, sea salt and black pepper
  • Topped with bolognese sauce (see previous) and spinach

I normally put a little sweetness back into my bolognese with a small amount of honey to counter the tomatoes, but the interesting thing about using it as a topping for sweet potato is the potato puts in the sweetness and it all tastes better for it. Love the skin too. And apparently its well good for you :)

Into the smoky sweetness of the black garlic in the omelette too.  It will make a reappearance!
[naturally aged + fermented]

I guess I didn't realise you could alter the flavour of eggs as much as I have been doing. I now see them as a blank canvas. Hurrah!

So in summary: getting accustomed to ingredients, using them regularly, but using in new ways, new combos, new flavours!
